Self Portraits Piccaso style

We watched this cute little video about Picasso and then painted our own self portraits with a Picasso flair.

Can you see the 2 different profiles? We learned about framing the face, seeing our faces from the front and the sides. Using bold colors to make our portraits more abstract and creative. As well as filling the frame with lots of geometric shape and dimension.

Hotrod is such a distraction but we love him so.
He loves to paw at everyone's water jars and get a drink now and then.

Ask your students if they can express an emotion in their painting? What colors express anger, joy, laughter, happiness, fear? They will enjoy this project. There was a lot of laughs today. Our faces look funny and that is FUN!~

Lines with a Twist~

Materials:
Poster Paper
Acrylics
Crayons
Black Paint

Good creative start to the year! The students learned about cool and warm colors on the color wheel and how to create interesting abstract art using those colors. We also learned about line and patterns and how to add interest by adding lines and pattern.

Our class kitty- HOTROD!- He loves Max's art box! :)

First, draw a giant doole and then draw a line down the middle of the paper.

Choose one side to paint cool colors and one side to paint warm colors.
This is also a great first day practice painting because there is no wrong way for it to turn out.
The patterns and doodles they started with were fun to hold up and 'find' things in...
just like looking up at the clouds and finding shapes. What do you see in the paintings below?

After the paint is dry we added line and pattern -filling each section with a different pattern.
Very dynamic pieces!

Finish with a snuggle from Hotrod!~ Great work guys!

Tie Dye!!

Tie Dye ROCKS~!
Most popular summer art camp project ever. And so easy. Hint... don't go overboard on colors...they just turn muddy. Leave shirts tied over night for best results.
Here is a great link on how to do a fan-fold design and some fun different folding techniques!

And here are all the younger students shirts...they loved them so much they put them right on!!
