Christ's Haven -Last Day of Summer Art Camp

This is another fun version of circle paintings... 2-3 students gather around and paint around a center circle as it gets bigger and bigger. Then you connect the circles together with dots. The idea came from artist and teacher Hiep Nguyen....

About Circle Paintings

Circle painting is a collaborative art making process that aims to promots social interaction and creative expression. The concept was originally conceived and created by artist/teacher Hiep Nguyen eight years ago when he realized that making art should not be the privilege of the few but it is the birthright for all people. The first circle painting was created when he invited neighborhood children and their family members to paint in his studio. Since then, Hiep has led many circle painting projects for different organizations, schools, and communities around the world. For more about Circle Paintings, please click here.

The little girl who painted this is only 6 years old!
I sketched the drawing on the canvas and she painted in the colors.

Reflecting on the scripture... "The Word of God stands forever."
~This students painted this vibrant flower.

We finished the summer with inspiration from Wassily Kandinsky.
Starting with a 2' X 3' canvas we divided the canvas
evenly into 4"X4" squares and then let each student paint in their
own circle design. When we were done we all had fun picking
out our favorite squares. You never get tired of looking at this! It is awesome!

Fishes of the Sea

We downloaded pictures of whales, sea turtles, dolphins and other sea
creatures and used them as inspiration for our paintings today.
They were interesting. It's a challenge to paint water.

Our Kitchen inspiration chalkboard

We bought chalkboard paint and painted directly on the kitchen wall.
We take turns in the family creating weekly inspiration. This was my week~

Summer Art Camp

Inspired by the painting "Tree of Life" by Gustav Klimt...one student painted her
version of his famous painting. She painted the canvas black and then sketched in the
tree and swirly limbs. Then added in all the colorful details. It turned out fantastic.
I wanted to take this one home!

Abstract art can be so fun. This student designed her own
close up of the center of a flower.

Candy

Okay this is so cool...one of my favorite assignments.
This is Realism. And really hard to accomplish. First to
enjoy painting you start with doing lots and lots of abstracts.
So one of our last assignments of the year was giving the
students the opportunity to paint realistic paintings.
What fun...but we all got really hungry!

I can't wait to see this one finished! Doesn't this
look fun! Hopefully she will bring the finished painting
in to class and I can add it to the blog.

Why not choose your favorite candy bar and paint
something...and have a snack while your at it!

In the art room...

Circle Paintings

Inspired by the artist Wassily Kandinsky we painted our own circle paintings

for our last project of the summer.

We took a break and had lunch...no we did not paint Sarah's tongue
and she did not lick a Smurf!
She had an airhead candy that was blue! Haha!

We each painted circles on each others canvas...creating our own special design
and then trading and painting on each others canvas.
The result was beautiful and a great way to remember our time
together this summer. Can you tell whose squares are whose?

When we put all our paintings close together they looked really cool.
This would be a fun project to do for a birthday party or end of
the year project. You can do one large piece that everyone works on
(which I will upload and show you how amazing this looks) or you
can do small pieces so everyone has one to take home.

Butterflies and Moths

Working on the butterfly paintings. We started with the background and then sketched templates on construction paper (just like you used to do to cut out hearts by folding a piece of paper in half and drawing half a heart and then cutting it out and having a perfectly symmetrical heart) we folded our construction paper and sketched out half a butterfly (or moth) and then cut it out. When we opened the paper we had a symmetrical outline for our paintings. We traced around our patterns and then painted in the details.

Christ's Haven

Christ's Haven students painted original acrylic
paintings for the fall Women's Auction.
They did an awesome job!

Flower Power

Sarah and Carly did an amazing job! Great work girls!

Then we outlined everything with black Sharpie so everything
looked neat and clean and pops!

We used jar lids and flower templates to sketch out our flower arrangements.
Then we chose bright colors to paint our flower paintings.
